General Information
Ukandu Corps
Ukandu Corps is a unique opportunity for 12-18-year-olds to work together, learn from local leaders, and complete a service project from concept to execution in the Portland community. At 8 bi-monthly meetings that run through the fall, Corps members will earn service hours, grow leadership skills, and meet like-minded peers from the Portland-metro area.
Collaboration
Ukandu Corps participants learn to work together, problem-solve, and resolve disagreements through bi-monthly meetings.
Service
Ukandu Corps participants work together to create and carry out a service initiative to better their community.
Leadership
At Ukandu, we know leadership can (and must!) come from anywhere - including young people!
Ukandu Corps’ Work
Our young leaders heard from guest speakers, pondered the definition of "service" and "collaboration," and ultimately created and executed service projects on issues that were important to them!
2023 Teen Care Packages
This year’s cohort, made up of 15 teens impacted by childhood cancer, decided to focus their efforts on creating packages for teens on active treatment. All of the items in these packages were carefully selected by this group of teens based on items they would have liked to receive themselves. After working to secure donations from the community, they put together 30 care packages and delivered them to teens receiving cancer treatment at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital and Randall Children’s Hospital.
2022 Teens For A Cause
This cohort had so many things they were passionate about they couldn't choose just one! The solution? A website encouraging teens to get involved across four different 'issues'! Thus, Teens For a Cause was born! The cohort worked hard to find local resources and organizations working to address LGBTQIA+ issues, climate change, childhood cancer, and mental health. At the end of the 8-week program the cohort launched the website and presented it to their friends and family.
